Rebecca Whitney completed a BA in Creative Arts at Nottingham Trent University, and found much of her art and performance work inspired by the written word. Her other loves are music and film, and on graduating she moved to London where she worked in the music industry before switching to TV and film production, moving up from tea girl to producer and executive producer on music videos, commercials and documentaries. On returning to Sussex where she grew up, she completed the Creative Writing Certificate at Sussex University.

THE LIAR’S CHAIR, Rebecca’s debut, was published by Mantle/Pan Macmillan in 2015 and was chosen for both the Loose Women and Poppy Loves Books clubs. Her second psychological thriller, THE HIDDEN GIRLS, was again published by Mantle on December 31st, 2020, and was longlisted for the 2021 Crime Writers’ Association Gold Dagger award.

Rebecca has taught creative writing for Guardian Masterclasses, the Creative Writing Programme and Brighton and Hove YMCA. She works as an editor and mentors emerging writers through a UK literary agency, as well as teaching and editing through Booksmiths with friend and fellow author, Alex Hourston. Her short stories have been published as well as shortlisted for the Bridport and Fish competitions, and her articles have appeared in The Independent, Psychologies and Buzzfeed amongst others. She has spoken at events nationwide including Bloody Scotland, CrimeFest, and the Isle of Wight Literary Festival.
